Semifinals set for Dallas Cup Super Group XXXVII

The bracket stage of the Dallas Cup XXXVII Super Group came to an end with a dramatic Wednesday slate of matches.  The semifinals are all set for Friday evening in Frisco at Toyota Stadium. Fulham, Everton and Fluminense emerged as the bracket winners while a late goal allowed FC Dallas to snatch the wildcard position.

In Bracket A, Fulham opened the day in top spot and after both matches ended in draws they ended the day atop the bracket.  After the US Under20s and TSG Hoffenheim played out a wild 3-3 match Fulham battled CF Monterrey to a 1-1 which was enough for the English side to nip the group and advance with a win and two draws.

Bracket B was a wild one too as Real Salt Lake entered Wednesday controlling their own destiny. All they would need was a draw against Everton to advance.  Instead it was Everton on the front foot the entire match racing out to a 3-0 lead before conceding late in the dominant victory.  The English boys look to have gotten their feet under them and are quite dangerous moving forward in the tournament.  Tigres also had a chance to win the group or the wildcard with a win over Kyoto Sanga but could only manage a draw and were eliminated.

Bracket C was never in doubt as Fluminense rolled to three wins without allowing a single goal.  The Brazilians would have to be considered tournament favorites heading into the knockouts with such a dominant defense. A dramatic stoppage time Devin Vega goal for FC Dallas allowed them to nip Middlesbrough and grab the wildcard position.

Friday's semifinals are at Toyota Park in Frisco:
6:00 Fluminense v Fulham FC
8:00 Everton v FC Dallas
