Dallas Cup XXXV Super Group Matchday 2

Matchday 2 is in the books at Dallas Cup XXXV and we are set for some wonderful battles on Wednesday to decide who advances to the semifinal knockout round on Friday.

Group A
Fulham 6, Cortiba 6, Brommapojkarna 0 FC Dallas 0
The big showdown is set for Wednesday.  Fulham FC against Cortiba for the group title. Fulham rallied from an early deficit to defeat IF Brommapojkarna 2-1 noon on Monday.  It took a late stoppage time header from substitute Liam Donnelly to claim the important victory.  The win puts Fulham on six points. Cortiba also did their part blasting he overmatched FC Dallas Academy squad 4-1.  Both Cortiba and Fulham haev identical 6-1 goal differentials so there will need to be a winner in Wednesday's match.  Why oh why is this game on the crappy Richland College fields and not at the Cotton Bowl?

Group B
Fluminense 4, Chivas 4, LA Galaxy 1, Anderlecht 1
Well everything is left to play for in this grouping.  After their 1-1 draw on Sunday at the Cotton Bowl, both Fluminense and CD Guadalajara won 2-0 today leaving them perfectly tied in the standings heading into Wednesday's final matchday.  That leaves Anderlecht and the LA Galaxy on a single point.  I guess if we get two upsets it could get all four teams to four points and a major mess, but that just is not going to happen.  It is up to Fluminense and Chivas to see who can grab the most impressive win on Wednesday and grab the group title.

Group C
US U20s 6, River Plate 3, Tigres 1, Eintracht Frankfurt 1
The US Under 20s jumped out to a 2-0 lead and never looked back in defeating Eintracht Frankfurt.  Goals from Benji Lopez and Zachary Pfeffer got the Americans off and running in the windy conditions.  Romain Gall closed out the scoring in the comprehensive 3-0 victory over the German side.  River Plate got on the winning side as they took out Tigres 1-0.  The results leave the Americans in complete control of the group as they finish group play on Wednesday at the Cotton Bowl against Tigres.  The US U20s only need a draw to advance and even a close loss might be enough to get them through on goal differential.  River Plate will need a multi-goal win over Eintracht Frankfurt and a USA loss to have a chance.  A River win could grab them the wild card perhaps with 6 points.
