Christian Pulisic leads US past Trinidad

After a scoreless opening half young Christian Pulisic drove the US to a 2-0 victory against visiting Trinidad Thursday night in Denver.  It certainly wasn't a perfect performance as the defense allowed several close calls including a header off the crossbar, but three points is three points when it comes to World Cup qualifying.

The legend continues to grow. Christian Pulisic is truly the real deal at only 18 years old. It is crazy to think that a kid can drive the offense of the US National Team, but that is exactly what is happening.  Now can he do it at Azteca against the powerful Mexico squad on Sunday?

After the important American win over Trinidad, Mexico rolled over Honduras 3-0 to further solidify their place at the top of the Hex. Honduras continues to slip down the standings with a leaky, leaky defense that has allowed 12 goals in 5 matches so far.

Panama went to Costa Rica and played to a scoreless draw. Not a good result for Costa Rica, but a point that keeps them in 2nd place at the midway point.  Panama will definitely take the result from a difficult road test.

CONCACAF Hex Standings
Mexico     - 13
Costa Rica - 8
United States - 7
Panama   - 6
Honduras - 4
Trinidad   - 3

Looking ahead to Sunday shows the huge USA v Mexico clash at Azteca in Mexico City.  An El Tri victory would basically wrap up their place in Russia for next year's World Cup. Any result for the Americans would be golden.  The other two games in the Hex are Tuesday with Honduras visiting Panama and Costa Rica hosting Trinidad. Panama could go a long way to wrapping up a top four finish with a win at home over 5th placed Honduras while Costa Rica could move closer to a Russia place with a win over last placed T&T.
