Toronto FC make a splash with Gilberto, Defoe and Bradley

Toronto FC are looking to be the "beasts of the Eastern Conference" as they hit the transfer market hard this offseason.  After finishing in 9th place last year Toronto have big ideas for the new season.  The long in the works deal to land striker Jermain Defoe from Tottenham was announced a couple weeks back.  What an impact he should have on the MLS sending shivers through defenses across the continent.

Defoe, 31, has scored 19 goals in 55 career appearances for the English national team. This season he's scored seven goals in five UEFA Europa League contests and netted two strikes in three League Cup games for Tottenham.

The latest news out of Toronto is even bigger in my opinion as Michael Bradley was signed from AS Roma.  What a monster grab this was.   Bradley is a flat out stud and the driver in the US National Team midfield.  At only 26 years old it is a huge grab for Toronto FC to get such an influential player in his prime.

And do not forget about their earlier offseason signing of Brazilian striker Gilberto.   Hmm Jermaine Defoe and Gilberto up front with Michael Bradley controlling the midfield.  Yikes.

Gilberto, 24, comes to Toronto from Brazilian side Portuguesa after establishing himself as one of the best young attackers in his native country, where he was the sixth-leading scorer in the 2013 Brazilian Série A.  MLS needs more young attacking talents like Gilberto in the league.

With these three additions Toronto FC should be major influences in the MLS Eastern Conference.  Anything short will be a major disappointment after the financial commitment from management.
