Shameful Pep Guardiola dampens MLS All Star Game

What an embarrassing display from one of the more respected coaches on the planet.  Pep Guardiola left a bad taste after his Bayern Munich side were beaten by the MLS All Stars Wednesday night in Portland.  Pep and his Bayern boys were in the United States to promote German soccer and promote the Bayern Munich brand.  Instead they'll leave with a major stain on their credibility.

Guardiola was unhappy about some fouls committed by the MLS All Stars late on as his Bayern Munich side was trying to erase the 2-1 deficit they found.  Goals from Bradley Wright-Phillips and Landon Donovan overcame an early Robert Lewandowski strike and gave the MLS boys a shock lead.  With just over ten minutes to play Pep Guardiola introduced his World Cup stars Muller, Schweinsteiger, Gotze, Lahm and Arjen Robben.  They were meant to rescue the evening.

Instead they were greated by a group of Americans protecting a precious lead.  Schweinsteiger immediately found out the game was on when he was crunched.  This got Pep off the bench.  Gesturing at American coach Caleb Porter on the MLS bench.  A couple of more tough fouls followed and Guardiola lost it.  The match ended minutes later with the MLS All Stars claiming a win that nobody expected.

As the benches entered the pitch for postgame handshakes Guardiola waved his finger telling the American coaches he had no desire to shake hands.  On the field he ignored many of the MLS players and once again ignored Porter.  Talk about a sore loser and poor sport.  Bayern won't live this down unfortunately as they'll be branded as whiners and poor sports here in the United States.  Then in the postgame press conference Pep Guardiola had the nerve to flat out lie.

"I didn’t see them," Guardiola said in reference to the MLS coaching staff. "I shook hands with my players and the players from the opposing team."

What a crock.  We all saw his behavior.  Guardiola went on to say he hoped Bayern Munich would be invited back next year to get revenge. "I expect they [MLS] are going to invite us next year to make the revenge and I'm going to prepare a little bit better."

Personally, I hope MLS does not invite Bayern back next year.  The MLS All Star game is an honor and Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich do not deserve such.
