Alvaro Saborio notched a hat trick but it just wasn't enough as the New York Red Bulls rallied past RSL in a wild 4-3 contest.  Three penalty kicks and four goals after the 80th minute don't even begin to describe the wildness of Saturday night's match at Red Bull Arena.  Throw in seven yellow cards to boot!

It looked like it was going to be a fun night for the home team as New York raced out to a 2-0 lead inside the opening half hour.  A Tim Cahill header off a Thierry Henry set piece opened the scoring in the 11th minute after it trickled through the RSL keeper's legs.  Ten minutes later Braondon Barklage earned a penalty kick that Fabian Espindola knocked home to make it 2-0.

Real Salt Lake had no plans to go quietly though and Jason Kreis's boys set about fighting back.  Just before halftime they had a penalty of their own as Markus Holgersson fouled Olmes Garcia.  Alvaro Saborio put home the penalty and it was 2-1 at the break.  New York held onto their lead until a wild final ten minutes of play.

In the 80th minute Saborio fired home an assist from Garcia and the match was all even.  The home fans were stunned as only seconds later Saborio finished his hat trick giving Real Salt Lake a shock 3-2 lead.  Credit to NYRB though as they recovered quickly from losing the lead.

In the final minute of regular time Fabian Espindola was levelled by RSL's Aaron Maund earning another penalty.  Saborio stepped up and confidently put it home evening the game at three.  The action wasn't over though as late into extra time NYRB would snatch victory.  After a Garcia was stopped the Red Bulls went on the attack where the diminuitive Dax McCarty headed home the winner off a Barklage cross.

A wild finish to a wild game!
