FC Dallas opens 2016 in fine fashion

Everything went according to plan for FC Dallas in the 2016 MLS opener against the Philadelphia Union. The dynamic FCD lineup was in full display as they ran roughshod over the average visitors.  The attack force of Fabian Castillo, Mauro Diaz, Max Urruti and Micheal Barrios showed just why FC Dallas is one of the most feared sides in the entire league.

After a few missed chances, FC Dallas opened the scoring in the 22nd minute as a well timed pass freed the speedy Fabian Castillo in behind the Union lines.  The Colombian raced in and easily finished past the helpless Andre Blake.  It was pretty much one way traffic all day and FCD doubled the lead in the 79th as a Mauro Diaz steal at the top of the Philadelphia penalty area was cashed in. Diaz stole the ball and raced to the endline where he squared for Max Urruti to bang home off the crossbar.  2-0 and game over.

Truthfully the game was never really close and if not for the athletic Andre Blake in the Union net it would have been much worse.  He made several top class saves to keep Philadelphia in touch.  The only down side to the entire afternoon was the late Fabian Castillo injury.  Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing serious and mostly be a time wasting tactic more than anything else.

Young Dallas defender Walker Zimmerman summed up the afternoon best: “To get the win is the most important thing to us, it gets that monkey off your back getting those first three points. We’re looking forward to Houston, we’re looking forward to getting another three points."

Next weekend FCD makes the jaunt south to face rivals Houston Dynamo who choked a late lead yesterday in the 94rd minute tying New England 3-3 on home turf.
