FC Dallas gets past Arabe Unido into Champions League semifinal

Consider the trip to Panama as a mission accomplished. With the MLS opening weekend ahead, FC Dallas went to Panama and navigated the tricky return leg to advance to the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal round.  After blasting Arabe Unido 4-0 in the home leg last week all Oscar Pareja and the boys had to do was effectively manage the match and get out of there safely. They did just that grabbing an early goal to really kill off any hopes AU had.

From there it was just a case of smartly playing out the remainder of the game with no silly cards or injuries.  With the tie well in hand and focus on the weekend MLS opener with the LA Galaxy, FCD slowed the pace.  Atiba Harris and Cristian Colman came on at halftime as Pareja smartly managed the minutes of his players in front of the long season.  Later in the second half 17 year old Homegrown midfielder Paxton Pomykal made his professional debut logging 30 minutes of action. Arabe Unido did show some pride despite the 5-0 aggregate scoreline grabbing two stoppage time goals to make the final aggregate 5-2 in favor of FC Dallas.

Next up will be a monster battle as FC Dallas will face CF Pachuca.  It will pit the 2016 MLS Supporters Shield holders versus the 2016 Liga MX Clausura Champions.  What a mouthwatering matchup this one will be!  The first leg of the two-leg series will be on either March 14th or 15th at Toyota Stadium while the return leg at Pachuca’s Estadio Hidalgo will be April 4-6.
