New boss Oscar Pareja has his FC Dallas squad looking good through the first four matches of 2014. Three wins and a draw have the team on top of the MLS Western Conference. MLS has them #1 in their weekly power rankings for the entire league. The offense is in fine form finding the net nine times behind the relentless attack of Mauro Diaz, Fabian Castillo and Blaz Perez.
Mauro Diaz has taken the league by storm as he has more than filled the shoes of departed captain David Ferreira. Fans were able to see glimpses of his talent last last season, but now he is "the man" striking fear into opposing defenses with his pinpoint passing and vision.
It is not all cake and ice cream though. Injuries have popped up in the midfield as holding mids Adam Moffat and Adam Jacobson have both been sidelined. Red cards also have flared with JeVaughn Watson and Hendry Thomas serving suspensions. There is also the fact that all of the FC Dallas wins have come on home turf. They did earn a very solid draw on the road at Sporting Kansas City though.
The schedule does get tougher. This weekend they travel to face rivals Houston Dynamo before returning home to the Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC. That will make five home games from the opening seven to start the year. The team better be at the top of the standings as they will owe the road several at that point.
However you spin it though, the optimism has returned to FC Dallas. A miserable final several months to last year are being put to rest and the fans are loving it! Can FC Dallas continue the hot play and be consistent all year?
