FC Dallas continues domination of Houston Dynamo

Home sweet Home.  After a long five game road trip, FC Dallas used the home cooking to their advantage Friday night as not even a a thunderstorm could hold them back.  Two first half goals lifted FCD past the visiting Houston Dynamo as MLS rivalry week got into full swing.

A huge thunderstorm rolled through Frisco just before kickoff sending the warming up players scrambling for cover.  An hour delay ensued, but it was all FC Dallas once play got underway.  The Dynamo were able to create a couple of chances in the opening 30 minutes only to be turned away each time.  At the other end they had no answer for the dynamic duo of Mauro Diaz and Fabian Castillo.

The difference in athletes was evident.  Houston threw the aging legs of Demarcus Beasley and Brad Davis while Dallas countered with speedsters.  It paid off in spades as Fabian Castillo created the opening goal in the 33rd minute as he blazed down the left side. Cutting inside as he does so often, Castillo tried to slide a square ball across the six yard box.  Houston defender Jermaine Taylor attempted to block the cross only to see it deflect of his foot and into his own net.  Own goal.

The second FC Dallas goal would come only minutes later.  Once again Castillo was on the run.  He slipped a pass to Mauro Diaz and continued his run.  Diaz gave a perfect pass back to Castillo who rolled into the side netting as three Houston defenders arrived late. Game. Set and match.

After the break the game got a bit chippy as Houston tried desperately to get back into the game.  Five yellow cards marred the second half as FC Dallas maintained their two goal lead.  FCD keeper Dan Kennedy was forced into a couple of saves, but Dallas was never troubled on the night winning 2-0.

I doubt Houston wants to see Dallas anymore this year after two shellackings.  Earlier this season Dallas won 4-1 in Houston in a game that was not even that close.  Like it or not the Dynamo has FC Dallas on their schedule once more this year.
