FC Dallas continues busy offseason heading into 2017

All things considered it was a wonderful season last year for FC Dallas. Despite crashing out in the playoffs the team was incredibly successful in winning the Supporters Shield, the US Open Cup as well as advancing to the knockout round in the CONCACAF Champions League. With the offseason squarely upon us, FCD has been busy working on shaping their roster for 2017.

It’s been a flurry of activity up in Frisco as a packed year await’s the team. The knockouts of the Champions League followed by the always busy MLS schedule, the title defense of the US Open Cup as well as the 2017 Champions League all loom. Oscar Pareja and the office will once again need to put together a deep roster. Luckily, they have proven to be the best management team in the entire MLS at signing exciting young talent.

Basically the entire core of talent will return next season. A few players have departed, but none who played a major role last year. Zach Loyd, Mauro Rosales, Getterson and Aubrey David all are off the roster. In their place the team has signed three players so far in attempts to upgrade the squad.

FC Dallas sign Anibal Chara, Roland Lamah and Jose Salvatierra
Anibal Chiara -
Once again FCD heads to South America for another young talented player. Chiara has played major minutes for Ecuadorian side El Nacional and also featured with the Ecuador U20s. “We’ve been watching him for about a year and when you come up with a player like this, who has been with his youth national team and you have an opportunity to grab him, you grab him,” FC Dallas Technical Director Fernando Clavijo said.

Roland Lamah - The Belgian winger should bring immediate class and experience to the team. He has 5 caps for Belgium and has played extensively in Europe.

Jose Salatierra - An experienced defender who has 30 caps with the Costa Rica national team. He has made 155 appearances with Alajuelense where the the team has won five league titles in his time.

Matt Hedges extends contract through 2020 - The leader of the team and one of the best central defenders in all of MLS signed a contract extension through the year 2020. FCD fans should feel great knowing their main man in the back will be in place for several years to come!

FC Dallas signs two youngsters to homegrown contracts -
Two young studs have been signed to professional contracts as Jesus Ferreira and Brian Reynolds inked contracts. Reynolds is a fixture with the US youth national program. The towering 6’3 striker dominates and at the age of 15 became the youngest ever signing for FC Dallas last month.

The club also signed another 15 year with a last name that might ring a bell. Jesus Ferreira is the son of former MLS MVP & FCD star David Ferriera. Another crazy talented attacker becomes part of the club! Ferreira was part of the Under-16 FC Dallas Academy team that won the US. Soccer Development Academy Championship after going 23-2-0 during the regular season. Since joining the FC Dallas Academy in 2013, Ferreira found the back of the net 48 times in 50 starts.

Expect a few more signings in the coming weeks as well as look for some young talent to arrive through the MLS SuperDraft. FC Dallas Technical Director Fernando Clavijo commented as he builds and refines the roster ahead of 2017.

“Every year is better because when the team wins, you know you may have to change a couple things, but it gives you a different work load because things are going well,” he said. “We have a very competitive group, not only from ownership, but also staff, coaches and players that we're going to get better and they want to keep winning.”
