FC Dallas Claims Supporters Shield

FC Dallas got the result they needed in Los Angeles as they played the Galaxy to a scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon. The tie earned FCD their second major trophy of the season as they claimed the MLS Supporters Shield awarded to the top team in the Major League Soccer standings at the end of the regular season.

Dallas held a reserve filled Galaxy side in check throughout most of the afternoon, limiting Los Angeles to only two shots on target all match. Stud centerback and captain Matt Hedges led the stalwart defense, just as he has throughout the season.

“It was our goal all year [to win the shield],” Matt Hedges said. “We worked very hard, and it came to fruition. We were the best team all year, I feel like, and we got rewarded.”

FC Dallas ends the 2016 regular season with a 17-8-9 record good for 60 points. This is the second-straight season FC Dallas has attained 60 points, the first time in MLS history any club has done that. The team will now wait until Thursday night to determine their Western Conference Semifinal opponent as the Western Conference knockout round games take place on Wednesday and Thursday. Dallas will have their opening playoff match on Sunday, October 30th on the road.

“[It’s a] reward for the guys for such an effort this week,” Pareja said. “Going to Guatemala for CONCACAF, and getting a tremendous result against Seattle [via last weekend's 2-1 win], put us in this run and gave us the option to own the destiny of this club. They came to LA and got the job done, so we are very proud.”
