Colorado and FC Dallas share the points

FC Dallas arrived in Colorado desperately needing a result.  A five game road trip and has been nothing sort of a disaster as the team has only managed a single point from the first four road matches.  With a few home games in front of them FCD could put together a good run with a result against the Rapids.

It took less than three minutes for Fabian Castillo to flash as he blew past a Colorado defender and bore down on goal.  Unfortunately it was the same old thing we have seen from Castillo time and time again.  His final effort was horrid as he launched his shot well high and wide.

The Rapids earned a dangerous free kick in the 11th minute, but Dillon Powers narrowly missed high as keeper Dan Kennedy looked to have it covered.  The story of Colorado's season went on as the team has just not been able to score goals.

They had one more chance a a nice series of passes carved up the visiting defense leaving Dillon Serna in front of goal. Dan Kennedy was up to the task though as he went down to hold the Serna shot.  Colorado stayed on the front foot as FC Dallas sat back and looked to counter.  The first half ended with a whimper a neither side produced much attacking soccer.

The opening twenty minutes of the second half were just not much better.  We had a true midfield battle on our hands as both offenses continued to sputter. After seventy minutes of lackluster soccer we would get a very entertaining final twenty at least. Finally FC Dallas would break the stalemate and it was FCD star Fabian Castillo who would provide the magic.  Castillo received the ball at the top left of the Rapids penalty area.  The defense looked to have Castillo contained with multiple defenders around him.  Out of nowhere Fabian unleashed a shot high to the back post where it found the side netting.  Quite a goal from nothing.

Now the poor Colorado offense was under the gun.  Could they get back into the game with fifteen minutes to go?  The next chance would fall to the visitors though as a soft cross from Castillo was met with a strong header from Blas Perez.  Clint Irwin made the diving save to keep the Rapids within one.

The save would be even bigger as only two minute later the match was tied.  Kellyn Acosta was lost on defense as Dillon Serna cut inside him to volley home.  The craziness continued as Fabian Castillo nearly put FC Dallas back in front within a minute.  Castillo raced inside and fired a low shot that beat Irwin only to come back off the post.  So unlucky for Castillo.

The match would end with the two teams splitting the points.  A result that doesn't help the Rapids at all.  Nine draws in fifteen games will put you at the bottom of the table.  FC Dallas finally ends their long road trip.  Not very successful but time to get back to Dallas for some home cooking.
