Costa Rica - The Revelation of Brazil 2014

Not a soul could have seen this coming.  Costa Rica have taken Brazil by storm and shocked the world by knocking off Uruguay and Italy in their opening two games.

Now, in CONCACAF, we all know about Costa Rica.  They are traditionally the third power here behind the USA and Mexico.  Very formidable foes that give the US and Mexico fits every time the sides meet.  Now the world is finding out about the Ticos.

Feisty.  Resolute. Technically good.  Great goalkeeping.  All around a good side.

Now all Costa Rica need is a draw with sputtering England to close out group play on top of Group D.  Even a one goal loss to England might be enough to top the group.  Knockout qualification is assured though no matter what.

After sneaking up on a Luis Suarez-less Uruguay in their opener Costa Rica pulled the real shocker yesterday getting past world powers Italy.  The first result got glances, but the Italy win earned gasps and respect.  All eyes are on Costa Rica now.

The Ticos tied Italy in knots.  A well executed high line led to eleven Italian offside calls.  High pressure forced Italy into mistakes.  An extra attention to Pirlo took away alot of the Italian creativity.  It all led to a shock 1-0 upset.

How far can Bryan Ruiz and company go?  The bracket is certainly favorable as they are matched up with Group C.  As Group D winners, Costa Rica would most likely face Ivory Coast in the round of 16.  A fascinating matchup, but one Costa Rica can definitely win especially playing at the level they are currently.  That would potentially produce a quarterfinal matchup with the likes of Mexico, Croatia, Holland or Chile.  Does this Cinderella have legs?
