WBA and Manchester United battle to 2-2 draw

Once again that leaky Manchester United defense reared its ugly head as they visited a solid West Brom side on Monday.  You would think with such a porous defense that Van Gaal would have his team play a bit conservative on the road.  Not at all and they suffered for it getting countered after only 8 minutes.

Luke Shaw got caught too far forward and Wisdom raced out on the counter.  A well weighted square ball across the 18 sat perfectly for Sessegnon who hit a wonderfully placed first time shot past the helpless De Gea and into the top corner of the net.  A rally nice WBA goal, but one that would never be possible with a little more defensive attention from United.

ManU went right back on the attack as West Brom relaxed clearly happy with their early goal.  Robin van Persie forced a low save and the visitors earned a pair of corners in quick succession.  They definitely have the firepower to get back, but can they hold up defensively?

It was all one way traffic as Manchester searched for the equalizer.  Angel Di Maria was looking particularly dangerous, but WBA keeper Boaz Myhill was able to turn away his swerving strike in the 32nd minute.  WBA would need to get on the front foot and not be content wit the one goal lead.

Van Gaal brought on Mariouanne Fellaini to start the 2nd half and the move paid immediate dividends as the big man from Belgium scored his first goal for Manchester United.  Angel Di Maria looped a long cross to the top of the Albion penalty area where Fellaini expertly brought the ball down off his chest before cutting right and firing into the top of the net.

Back on level terms with 40 minutes to play and all the momentum with ManU.    Again it was all one way traffic as West Brom were just surviving.  Did they have another epic counter in them or would United go on and win this one?

Happily West Brom would fight back and in the 65th they would snatch back the lead.  Rafael got caught sitting too deep and kept Berahino onside with a through ball. Berahino raced off and expertly finished by curling the ball around De Gea and into the right side netting to the delight of the home crowd.  A top flight finish.

Big trouble again for Manchester United in a season full of trouble.  How would the react?  They responded by bringing on Falcao, but lost Di Maria only minutes later to a thigh injury.  Robin Van Persie almost tied the game but is dipping shot came back off the post.  Fifteen minutes to play.

Jut when you thought West Brom would have their three points Manchester United tied the game through the most unlikeliest.  Daly Blind pounced on a loose ball at the top of the box and curled it home perfectly with his left foot.  Cannot say it wasn't deserved, just didn't expect it from him.

Stoppage time provided more nerves for the home side as they hung on for dear life.  Manchester United were pushing hard for the winner.  Time would run out though without a victor.  2-2 final.
