Could we all be focusing on the wrong teams right now? Of course everybody loves Leicester City and I agree they are a wonderful story with Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez running wild. A few weeks ago it was Manchester City on everyone's lips. Lately it has been Arsenal and thanks to the Sunday win over Leicester, Arsene Wenger's club will quickly be anointed as the new favorites now.
But are we missing perhaps the most dangerous side in the whole English Premier League? Overlooking Tottenham might be a huge mistake. While the media has rightfully jumped on the Leicester bandwagon. Or hailed mighty Arsenal. Tottenham just quietly keep on grabbing three points every weekend. If you aren't considering Tottenham for the EPL title I think you need to.
Sunday they went up to The Etihad and knocked off Manchester City 2-1 pulling to within only two points of the top of the table. Even with Arsenal and two points off Leicester City. Yes they have the young and talented Harry Kane up front and teenage sensation Dele Alli has made quite the impact, but most don't know Tottenham has the stingiest defense in the entire league. Hugo Lloris is having a wonderful season in goal while the Belgium pairing of Alderwireld and Vertonghen have been powerful. Vertonghen is down with injury but Kevin Wimmer has stepped right in not missing a beat. I think we just might be not giving credit where Spurs have earned it.
Looking ahead Tottenham does not have a daunting schedule left. Arsenal comes to White Hart Lane on March 5 and tricky trips to Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool are on the horizon but other than that the schedule is quite favorable over the final 12 matches. Five of the bottom seven teams are still on the schedule. Mauricio Pochettino has his Spurs squad a serious contender to win their first ever English Premier League title. Pay attention or you might just miss them and be left shaking your head.
