It took long enough, Louis Van Gaal finally got his first official victory in charge of ManU. Out went the 3-5-2 and in came the diamond midfield. In came new boys Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo. Angel Di Maria was the best player on the pitch. The result a resounding 4-0 victory that will silence the critics at least for a moment.
It was Queens Park Rangers that felt the wrath and they were basically run off the pitch at Old Trafford. They showed no urgency at all and were puniched for it as the Red Devils surged forward at every opportunity. It was 3-0 by the break and QPR were already looking forward to their return to London. Juan Mata added the fourth after the restart.
Van Gaal said he felt it was a new start for United after he reshaped his squad by making six signings in the transfer window (Di Maria, Herrera, Falcao, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw) in a summer when 19 players left Old Trafford.
He added: "I said to the players before that we have to make a new start, because we start from the first [game in] September after the transfer window."
The win vaulted Manchester United all the way up to 9th place while QPR sit 16th and in store for a long season. Next up for ManU is a trip to face Leicester and then consecutive home matches with West Ham and Everton. Elsewhere, Chelsea stayed perfect with four wins in four as they rode a Diego Costa hat trick that kept them on top of the EPL standings through four weeks.
