Late Anichebe goal earns West Brom draw with Chelsea

For 70 minutes Chelsea looked like the leaders of the English Premier League. Then Jose Mourinho began asking his dynamic attackers off the pitch and going defensive to protect a one goal lead. Chelsea dropped deeper and deeper inviting West Brom forward. And forward they came. Attacking in waves over the last 20 minutes.

Finally Chelsea paid for their conservative stance and WBA got the goal they deserved. A perfect curling cross from found they cutting Victor Anichebe whose glancing header skipped off the back post and into the Chelsea net.

The late goal brought WBA back after conceding a goal late in first half stoppage time. A Chelsea corner was not dealt with and Ivanovic won he battle at the back post and rifled home for the lead.

The point does move Chelsea two points clear at the top of the English Premier League at the moment, but with both Arsenal and Manchester City both still to play this week, they could find themselves third real fast.

The point moves West Brom out of the relegation zone. Elsewhere, Southampton got a second half goal from Fonte to beat Hull City while Aston Villa and Cardiff City battled to a scoreless draw. West Ham claimed a massive three points beating Norwich 2-0 in a game of two teams fighting to stay out of the bottom three.
