Harry Kane leads Tottenham past Chelsea

This one had "big game" written all over it.  Chelsea come into White Hart Lane with Manchester City hot on their heels.  In fact, the two sides were even on points thanks to City's wi earlier in the day.  A road result was needed to break the stalemate.  Spurs were coming off a draw with Manchester United and were looking to get their name back into the discussion for a top four finish.  Important points on the table for both squads.

The Tottenham crowd was loud and rowdy as they pushed their team forward, but it was Chelsea that struck first.  And who else sparked the attack other than the classy Eden Hazard.  He skipped into the box and fired a low shot that came off the left post and rolled perfectly to the waiting Oscar who shot first time back across goal.  Hugo Lloris sprawled, but had no chance as the ball rolled past him for Diego Costa to tap home from close range.  Twenty minutes in and Chelsea had their lead.

Tottenham were not going to go quietly today though and they fought right back.  As Hazard and Costa for Chelsea,  it had to be Harry Kane for Spurs.  The young star in the making notched his sixth goal of the season to tie the match.  Half an hour in and we had ourselves a good one.

Tottenham were on the front foot from there and just before halftime Spurs had their lead.  Eriksen slipped a perfect pass putting Chadli in on goal where his shot rolled past Courtois and off the post.  Danny Rose raced in and barely beat Gary Cahill to fire home the goal.  Rose suffered for the goal though as Cahill absolutely blasted him.

Only a couple of minutes later things went from bad to worse as Harry Kane was dropped in the box by a late Cahill.  Andres Townsend stepped up and blasted home the penalty kick.  Suddenly it was 3-1 Tottenham as the halftime whistle blew.  Could Chelsea rally in the second 45?

The visitors began the second half bossing possession and probing to get back in the match.  Eden Hazard ripped one just over the crossbar in the 50th minute.  Minutes later it would once again be Harry Kane putting his stamp on the game.  He picked up a pass just inside the 18 where he spun inside and hit a perfectly placed shot past Courtois.  The thumping was on at Harry Kane's New Year's Party.

Game over? No way.  Fazio with a horrible turnover at midfield that sprung Fabregas and Hazard.  No surviving that lethal combination as Hazard put it home pulling Chelsea back to 4-2.   Plenty of time left in this one.

Hugo Lloris made a monster save in the 75th as he went down to push away a low drive from Azpilicueta.  A game changer to keep the two goal lead.  Two minutes later it was all over.  Harry Kane was the provider this time passing to Chadli who bounced his shot off John Terry and into the Chelsea net.  It left the White Hart Lane crowd chanting "We want six, we want six!"

Not sure anyone could have seen this one coming.  Perhaps the tightest defense in the entire EPL getting shelled for five goals.  Mourinho had only yielded five in a game one other time in his entire career!

Could this be the result that flips the entire league on its head?  Manchester City move even at #1 and leave Chelsea reeling. Tottenham leap up to 5th and are on the surge.
