Chelsea snatch Capital One Cup

To say it was a good day for Chelsea Football Club would be an understatement.  Everything fell perfectly this Sunday.  First they saw EPL challengers Manchester City go down at the hands of Liverpool.  Then they went out and took care of a talented Tottenham to claim the Capital One Cup at famed Wembley. Not too shabby of a Sunday.

The Liverpool victory over Manchester City almost puts an end to the title race in the English Premier League this year.  Chelsea now sit a clean five points clear and have a game in hand.  Almost impossible to make up two plus games with only eleven left.  The championship clearly lies at the feet of Chelsea.

Spurred on by the earlier result, they took the field at Wembley and put in a complete performance.  Everything worked.  Mourinho's tactics.  Costa's power up top.  A stiff defense led by Kurt Zouma roaming the defensive midfield.

They withstood a solid start from Spurs and then dominated the final hour.  Captain John Terry put CFC in front just before halftime as Tottenham failed to deal with a set piece situation.  Terry pounced on the failed clearance firing home for the lead.  It couldn't have come at a worse time for Tottenham.

Chelsea kept rolling after the break and before long Diego Costa doubled the lead.  Kyle Walker was left in the dust and Costa beat Hugo Lloris to the near post with a well placed shot.  Game over.

Afterwards Jose Mourinho said: “I am really happy. I should start with Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino because he is building a great team. They gave us a great match and I feel sorry for them. My players were fantastic. Finals are not for playing they are for winning. We did not have problems. They had a couple of chances but nothing else. We knew we would be dangerous on the counter and we played like we should play a final.

Mourinho has now won six trophies as Chelsea manager three League Cups, two league titles and one FA Cup.  More trophies are within Chelsea sights this year too as they chase the Champions League and EPL titles.
