Chelsea send 10 man Man City to first EPL loss

Manchester City's long unbeaten run to open the EPL season has ended as Chelsea rallied for a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.  An early Balotelli goal set City off on the right foot, stunning the home crowd in the opening minutes.

The visitors controlled most of the early play before Chelsea slowly worked their way back into the match.  They evened the match in the 34th minute of play when Daniel Sturridge got deep into the City box before sending a low cross in front of goal where Raul Meireles volleyed home.

The game went to halftime even and both teams took the field with everything to play for in the final 45 minutes.  The game would turn on a late challenge from Gael Clichy at the hour mark.  It would result in his second yellow and Manchester City would be a man down for the final thirty minutes of play.

City didn't crumble though and surprisingly were able to hold alot of the possession after the sending off.  It didn't look like Chelsea were going to be able to take advantage of the situation until late on when a Lescott handball resulted in a penalty kick.  Frank Lampard rifled home the spot kick and Chelsea were on their way to a valuable three points.

The loss leaves Manchester City two points clear of Manchester United atop the EPL standings.  Chelsea leaps to third trailing the leaders by five points.
