Chelsea easily open with win at Burnley

Chelsea were nice enough to let Burnley have a bit of belief as they marked their return to the English Premier League on Monday. That belief lasted all of about fifteen minutes.  After a shocking early goal vaulted Burnley in front, the EPL favorites flexed their muscles and stepped on the minnows.

A wonderful strike from Scott Arfield sent the home crowd into raves and spurred memories of five years ago when Burnley opened EPL play at home by beating Manchester United.  The euphoria was short lived though as Chelsea struck back in grand fashion.  Diego Costa evened the match and then a perfect Fabregas pass allowed Schurrle to grab a Chelsea lead.  In the 33rd it was 3-1 as Ivanovic touched home a Fabregas corner.  Game. Set and match.

The match went to the break 3-1, but the quality between the two sides was far greater.

The second half was almost a non-event as Chelsea controlled the flow and simply would not allow Burnley any hope.  A solid performance from a side that has real title aspirations.  The quality is certainly there.  Cesc Fabregas was the best player on the pitch and new man Diego Costa got on the scoresheet.  Bigger tests await as a trip to Everton looms in two weeks after the home opener next weekend against Leicester at Stamford Bridge.
