An errant beachball on the field led to a deflected ball that got past Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina and was the deciding goal in a 1-0 Sunderland win Saturday.  The incident took place very early in the match at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

A beachball from the Liverpool fans section ended up in the middle of the Liverpool penalty area and Reina chose to let it be rather than remove it.  Of course the play came down to the Liverpool end where Darren Bent rifled a shot on goal.  The soccerball hit the beachball direclty and both went flying.  The soccerball went right past the confused Reina and into the Liverpool net for the opening goal.  Little did anyone know that would be the only goal of the afternoon.

Liverpool, without injured stars Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres suffered another defeat and currently sit a disappointing 8th in the EPL standings.   Meanwhile Sunderland moved up to 7th with the win.
