College Soccer Update - North Carolina #1

A few weeks into the 2012 college soccer season and some things never change. North Carolina is off to their traditional powerful start and have locked down the #1 national ranking.  They have yet to play a road match though until tonight when they travel to face James Madison.  The weekend holds a matchup with rivals Wake Forest in Chapel Hill.  Martin Murphy leads the team with four goals in four matches.

Notre Dame is also off to a perfect start as they have claimed five wins in five so far.  In my opinion they deserve a bit higher ranking than their current #8.  Notre Dame have won impressively against powers Duke and Akron.  They have a difficult three game road stretch coming where they visit Michigan, Louisville and Indiana.

The surprise team in the top 20 for me is North Carolina State.  Long a bottom feeder in the talent rich ACC, it looks like the Wolfpack have a legit contender this season.  They have solid wins over Santa Clara and UNC Greensboro so far, but their biggest test comes on the weekend when they host national powers #3 Maryland.
