Nothing settled in Champions League semifinals

The first legs are in the books and absolutely nothing has been settled in either Champions League semifinal matchup.  The defenses were on display as fans were treated to only a single goal from the two matches.  Everything is left to play for heading into the second legs as the four teams battle for a place in the Final in Milan, Italy.

Manchester City 0 Real Madrid 0
Nothing settled here as it was a calm and quiet opening leg in England.  City lost their big chance as Real Madrid came to town with an injured Cristiano Ronaldo who did not make an appearance. It would not matter as neither side were able to find the net in a farily boring affair.  All favor now points to Real Madrid going home and getting the result on home soil.  Ronaldo should be ready to go and that is bad news for the Manchester defense.  Not getting the home victory should be the demise of City, but if they could somehow grab an away goal in Spain anything could happen.

Athletico Madrid 1 Bayern Munich 0
Bayern entered with two goals according to their executive chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "We want to score a goal and not lose the game." They failed on both accounts, but stay in touch to turn the tie around in Germany.  Athletico would take the day as a little bit of magic would be the difference. A wonderful individual goal from Saul Niguez would doom Bayern.

At the other end, Bayern Munich were never really able to break down Diego Simeone's battle-hardened side.  Their defense was simply too good.  And when the Germans were able to create a chance, Athletico keeper Jan Oblak was there to squash the hope.  Bayern Munich will need an ultimate effort on the return leg, but to count them out would be silly. They are more than capable of flipping the scoreline.  Athletic head to Germany looking for the valuable away goal. Get that and Bayern would need to get three on the day.
