It was Cristiano Ronaldo to the rescue as he scored a late goal to earn Real Madrid a draw in the Madrid Derby.  Atletico Madrid looked to be heading towards a famous victory before the intervention by the worlds best player.

It was a game of high drama and high gamesmanship.  Just what we have come to expect when the top of La Liga meet.  Rolling around on the ground.  Beseiging the referee.  Ugly confrontations.  But around all the hijinx there was some wonderful soccer action as well.

Karim Benzema put Madrid ahead at the Vicente Calderon Stadium after three minutes when he was left alone to guide Angel Di Maria's cross into the box past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Atletico struck back quickly though and had a 2-1 lead at the break.  Most would say Atletico were the better side on the day, but Cristiano Ronaldo denied them the three points with his goal in the 82nd minute.  The draw extended Real Madrid's unbeaten run to 28 games in all competitions.

Meanwhile, rivals Barcelona were cruising past Almeria at Camp Nou by a 4-1 score.  The match was over early as Barca raced out to a two goal lead within the half hour.  Alexis Sanchez and Lionel Messi grabbed the goals and Barcelona cruised from there.  The win moves Barcelona within a single point of Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table while Atletico Madrid are three back of the leaders.
