Champions League quarterfinal opening leg wrapup

The opening leg of the Champions League quarterfinals are in the books.  Barcelona are looking strong to move on to the semifinals while Bayern Munich look to be in serious trouble.  The two Madrid sides will play for it all next week at The Bernabeu while Juventus will try to hold onto a razor thin lead in Monaco.

Porto 3 Bayern Munich 1
A pair of early goals set the stage.  As the FS2 announcer said after it went 3-1 "It's just one of those special nights here in the Champions League." Porto had not beaten Bayern since 1987, but they did work today taking the opening leg on home soil 3-1.  Porto still has big work to do in Germany next week, but there is real hope thanks to this result.

Barcelona 3 Paris St Germain 1
The stars from Barca have a way of making good teams look ordinary and despite playing in Paris, Barcelona made PSG look quite pedestrian running out comfortable 3-1 winners.  A goal from Neymar and two from Luis Suarez give Barca a commanding lead heading back to Spain for the second leg.  PSG look to be dead and buried to me.

Juventus 1 Monaco 0
A first half penalty from Arturo Vidal lifted Juventus to an opening leg win.  Monaco has plenty of hope though heading home for decisive match.  I'll call a 1-0 win for Monaco next week with this tie being decided in penalty kicks.

Atletico Madrid 0 Real Madrid 0
Everything left to play for in this one.  Atletico keeper Jan Oblak was the star as he turned away Real attack after attack.  It will take an even bigger performance next week at The Bernabeu for Atletico to advance past their crosstown rivals.
