Monster matchups in Round of 16

Oh boy get your popcorn! The draw for the Champions League is out and it has given us a pair of monster matchups right off the bat in the round of 16.  Two of the big boys are going to be out of the competition in the very first knockout round.

Paris St Germain has been drawn with powerful Chelsea while Manchester City will face off against Barcelona.  Wow!  These are easily semifinal round matches being played early on.  In my opinion four of the six major favorites to win the entire Champions League this year.

PSG gave Chelsea troubles in last year's competition, but Chelsea do look even stronger this year than last.  Can PSG pull it off?  Barcelona looks vulnerable.  Can the Man City defense hold up?

The other two favorites, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, received very favorable draws on the other hand.  Bayern drew Shakhtar while Real Madrid was matched with Schalke.  Both should cruise to the next round without any troubles.

The rest of the draw shows us some draws that could go either way and should be fun to watch.  Arsenal should be on upset alert as they were matched with Monaco.  Arsene Wenger's side should be favorites, but don't count Monaco out in this one.  Swiss side Basel will look to get past Porto while a wonderful matchup features Juventus against Dortmund.

The final draw pits last year's darlings Athletico Madrid with German side Bayern Leverkusen.  Will Athletico's experience win out?

Too bad we have to wait until mid February to get the round kicked off!

PSG - Chelsea
Man City - Barcelona
Leverkusen - Athletico Madrid
Juventus - Dortmund
Schalke - Real Madrid
Shakhtar - Bayern Munich
Arsenal - Monaco
Basel - Porto
